Handstand Workshop Sat Feb 28th 13:15
While sticking to the handstand theme, this class rolls out as an improvised flow and is different every time. It provides a multivitamin pill of both challenging workout and technical insight. For sure a fun exploration with David to go for!
In this 2 hour lab we will
• deconstruct & reconstruct handstands to understand their technical elements
• progress carefully which makes mastery safe, fun, and easy for people of all levels
• delve into the finer anatomical aspects of handstands
• explore developmental movement patterns that underlie skillful handstands
• refine balance & stability of the whole body
• enhance flexibility AND strength of the shoulder
• learn how firmly establishing our relationship to the ground helps us extend & balance away from it
• develop resiliency of the wrists
• learn the role of the fingers in arm balance
• learn how to work with and overcome fear
• learn multiple ways of entering & exiting handstands
• exit (and fall) with comfort and safety for ease of progress in your practice
David is a bodywork and a movement educator and therapist, a researcher specializing in the finer aspects of bodily experience through attention to anatomical and developmental processes. He is noted for his playful, inquisitive spirit, unique insights, and for his skill at facilitating students’ independent discoveries. Uncompromisingly eclectic and interdisciplinary, under the umbrella of Body-Mind Centering®, he draws on a broad range of experiences from athletics, martial arts, contemplative arts, dance, and healing arts. He has studied with masters around the world, and now focuses on personal research and deep listening to his guide practice. David’s Freestyle Yoga classes incorporate organic movement and careful listening to engage the yogic process.
David teaches throughout Japan and internationally, and is the Director of Freestyle Move, a studio space for movement education and research in Kansai.
