An ordinary Wakaba Class ๐Ÿ”ฐ

The "Wakaba" classes we offer at Crossfit Kyoto are ideal for people who don't feel confident about exercise, are trying to get back in shape after an injury or for those who are 60+ ๐Ÿ”ฐ

 

The other day, T-san and head coach Russell took turns during a partner WOD and everyone had a lot of fun, especially T-san ๐Ÿ˜†โ™ซ

 

Let us introduce some parts of the class on that day: โœจ

Coaches adjust to each individual

At CrossFit Kyoto, our coaches scale the workouts to each individual and not just in the Wakaba classes but in every session.

 

For the warm-up T san used a stack of 3 plates so she could lift the kettle bell while maintaining a safe spine position. The person on the left is lifting the kettlebell from the floor.
(He is not a Wakaba class member, but he enjoyed warming up together with T san before his Basic Buffing session)

 

After warming up, T-san was able to reduce the number of plates under her kettlebell...

 

The coach said that next time she won't even need plates anymore ๐Ÿ™‚ Wonderful job T san!๐Ÿ‘

Today's program

Basically, the Wakaba classes use the same program as the CrossFit classes, but the coaches adjust the intensity to each person's level.

 

The WOD (Workout of the Day) that day was 3 rounds of

  • 4 Push-ups
  • 6 Deadlifts
  • 8 Ring row (or weighted pull-ups for Russell)
  • 20 Step Ups (or double-unders for Russell)

 

For Russell: weighted pull-ups

 

...and for T san's it's ring-rows instead of pull-ups

 

What a fabulous team!

 

Both Ring Row and Pull-Up train the pulling pattern. When coaches modify or scale movements they take into consideration how to safely train the same muscle or body parts ๐Ÿ™‚

 

 

While Russell had to do Double Unders (jump rope) T-san's scaled version was Step Ups, and rather than a box we used stacked plates to accommodate her mobility:

 

T-san started CrossFit in October 2019 and she herself, not to mention many of our members, has already noticed improvement in her posture! She is becoming very strong and coaches, staff and members are super happy with her progress. Your efforts are paying off, T san, keep going!โœจ
