🏠 Home or Outdoor Workout Suggestion 🌳

Hi there, this is from Coach Tatsuro.

Now that we have to stay home even longer - have you thought about doing some workouts? Did you sign up for the ONE TATAMI WOD? We offer the ANYTIME WOD within the program and you can do that anytime, anywhere and anyhow 😄

In this blog I would like to show how home workouts are different and possibly a little more challenging than you might expect. You can try this for one to three reps.

I named it ‘The Turkish Getup Trembler’ 🤣

For the regular TGU (Turkish Get Up) you begin lying flat on the ground, with one leg bent and the arm on the same side of the body extended toward the ceiling holding a kettlebell. From there you come up via the elbow, hip and knees, all the way to a standing position, after which you lie back down by reversing the order of the movements.

Supporting the weight of the KB, with the arm extended throughout the movement, you get up from the floor and lie back down. It’s a full body workout that can be done at home if you have the space to lie down flat (and a ceiling high enough to stand with your arm overhead. This can be a challenge for some of us in Japan 😉

We sometimes do the TGU in classes at CrossFit Kyoto - during the One Tatami WOD we had a few ppl who thought this version was even harder than at the gym. After doing it only 5 times even I was sweating and breathing hard.

When doing this at home you can use more weight to increase the intensity. So let’s try it. It’s simple enough. Instead of a KB you can use anything you can hold on to, a pet bottle, a book, your cat 😼 or dog 🐶 , or a ball ⚽️ 🏀 🏈 ⚾️ 🥎 🏐 🏉 🎾 of any kind.

Balance your piece of equipment on the flat part of your fist as shown in the picture below.

The movement is the same as for the regular TGU

This ’TGU Trembler’ doesn’t use big muscles, instead the challenge lies in going 🐌 slowly 🐢, using your balance and many of the tiny muscles for stabilization. You have to keep your shoulder in line with the equipment which creates extra opening of the chest, as otherwise your object will fall down.

We’re sure you’ll have a lot of fun with this one - try it out as a competition with family & friends!
