{"id":2986,"date":"2021-08-07T13:35:06","date_gmt":"2021-08-07T04:35:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crossfitkyoto.com\/en\/?p=2986"},"modified":"2021-08-07T13:35:06","modified_gmt":"2021-08-07T04:35:06","slug":"what-do-hang-and-power-mean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crossfitkyoto.com\/en\/2021\/08\/what-do-hang-and-power-mean\/","title":{"rendered":"What do \"Hang\" and \"Power\" mean?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"hh1 font-n\"><span>What do \"Hang\" and \"Power\" mean?<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hello, this is Tatsuro again!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In my last article, I explained the difference between the clean and snatch.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you haven't already, please read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossfitkyoto.com\/en\/2021\/06\/what-are-the-clean-and-snatch\/\">this article<\/a><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n\t<li><strong> Hang<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \"hang\" is derived from \"hang position\" and indicates a starting position of a clean or snatch.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hang position basically means that the bar is above your knees as shown below the picture.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.crossfitkyoto.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/\u30cf\u30f3\u30b0\u30dd\u30b8\u30b7\u30e7\u30f3-300x296.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"296\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2987\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.crossfitkyoto.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/\u30cf\u30f3\u30b0\u30dd\u30b8\u30b7\u30e7\u30f3-300x296.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.crossfitkyoto.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/\u30cf\u30f3\u30b0\u30dd\u30b8\u30b7\u30e7\u30f3-768x757.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.crossfitkyoto.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/\u30cf\u30f3\u30b0\u30dd\u30b8\u30b7\u30e7\u30f3-330x325.jpg 330w, https:\/\/www.crossfitkyoto.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/\u30cf\u30f3\u30b0\u30dd\u30b8\u30b7\u30e7\u30f3.jpg 948w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If it says hang before clean or snatch e.g. \"hang snatch\", begin by setting up with the barbell above your knees and start the lift that position.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The clean or snatch from the hang position are less difficult than starting from the floor, and this is often where we start practicing when people begin doing cleans and snatches.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\r\nIn addition, when starting from the floor, your bar will always pass through this \"hang position,\" so it is good for practicing form.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<ol start=\"2\">\r\n\t<li><strong> Power<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\"Power\" indicates the position in which you receive the bar.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The clean and snatch are divided into two categories depending on the position in which you receive the bar.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1) Power clean and power snatch<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lift the bar high and receive it with the hips and knees slightly flexed (hip joint not lower than knee).<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2) Squat clean and squat snatch<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The action of lowering down to a squat where the hip joint is lower than the knee and receiving the bar in this position.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the word \"clean\" or \"snatch\" is used without any prefix, it refers to this squat clean and squat snatch.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many people may not understand a written explanation of the difference between the two, so let's check it out in the video below.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Clean vs Power Clean\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Q2g_hFdTkJU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
